More Mobile WordPress Themes
Posted March 4, 2010 at 8:11 pmFiled under: Mobile Internet, Mobile Plugins, Wordpress Mobile by Rich Gubby Follow @zqxwzqThis week has seen a couple of updates to the Wapple Architect Mobile Plugin for WordPress.
First up, there was an update to the way that videos are handled on mobile pages. It turns out that in one of the WordPress updates (somewhere between the 2.8 and 2.9.2 versions), the way that videos were output to the browser changed slightly. This meant that the video parser in our mobile plugin didn’t pick up the correct source and didn’t show the video.
All fixed now though.
Bug Fixes
Next up there were a couple of bug fixes:
- A quick one to fix a couple of foreign char issues – there was a string that wasn’t being escaped – it is now.
- Even quicker one to parse links before lists – that means that if you have a link inside a list, it’ll now work ok and not throw an error.
Mobile Themes
And last, but certainly not least, were a couple of awesome new mobile themes – designed by Ryan DC. He did the last set (Wooden/Scrap Book/Obsidian), but he’s outdone himself with the latest 2 – iPhone Light and iPhone Dark – here they are in action:

Thanks for the designs Ryan, very much looking forward to the next set!
So there you have it – a couple of theme improvements, a minor bug fix here and a tweak there. Have you used any of the new themes yet, or maybe you’re using one of the older mobile themes but have tweaked them yourselves? I’d love to see a comment if you have!
Well done and much appreciated.
The width isn’t quite right on my Blackberry Bold 9700. Maybe about 10 pixels too wide?
Cheers.
No problem, I’ll check that out.
Just so I know, is it that the header image doesn’t quite stretch to the edge of the screen, or that you’ve got horizontal scroll on the site?
Sorry, yes – that was a bit ambiguous. I mean that I’ve got a horizontal scroll bar.
I’ve sent you an email with some more details.
Thanks!
Hi Rich:
I like the fact that you’ve made the mobile theme look customizable so that one can try to make a mobile theme as close as possible to their blog theme’s “standard” look.
My question for you is if you’ve had any experience with the Atahualpa theme and trying to customize a mobile theme around it, because that theme is slightly different then others in that it’s more user-friendly by allowing people to edit the theme look and config right from the WordPress dashboard, rather then doing manual editing in the php files (in fact they recommend not messing with the css.php file).
Anyhow – that’s the theme I use, which is why I’m asking ..
Should be ok now – turns out that the scrollbar on the BlackBerry 9700 isn’t taken into account when determining screen width!
Honest answer is I haven’t looked at the Atahualpa theme – but I’m going to take a quick look and see what I can come up with!
Once I’ve done this one, I’ll set up an area so you can browse themes and see if I’ve done a conversion to mobile!
A great plugin; I’m very pleased with it. Thank you.
I do have one question. Is it possible to display share buttons using the plugin; such as a ReTweet, Facebook or Digg button?
Regards
Paul
Hi Paul – most of the buttons such as the ones you mention work for most plugins. If you’ve got one that doesn’t work, please let me know and I’ll take a look!
